A Hidden Champion - What is it?

A consultancy that is honoured as "Hidden Champion" must compete with McKinsey, BCG and Bain (the ‘MBBs’) and fulfil three conditions:

1. BEDINGUNG

Less well known than MBB

In the top management of German companies with an annual turnover of more than 1 billion euros, the unprompted awareness level of a hidden champion must not exceed 15 percent.

2. BEDINGUNG

Active in the same market as MBB

The proportion of a Hidden Champion’s clients who also work with one of the MBBs – McKinsey, or Bain – must be at least 50 percent in the sample analyzed.

3. BEDINGUNG

Serious alternative to MBB

A Hidden Champion must be rated better by its clients in at least one area of expertise than all three MBBs – McKinsey, BCG and Bain.
