Finn studied at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and successfully completed his MSc. as an industrial engineer with a focus on energy economics, auction, decision and game theory. Through his work as a research assistant at the Chair of Energy Economics and his Master's thesis in cooperation with a large German energy company, Finn was able to gain experience in the field of energy economics. Finn gained experience abroad through an internship in the USA and a semester abroad in Finland. Finn has now been with us for 3 1/2 years and became a consultant at the beginning of the year.

Interest in energy consulting:
During my studies in industrial engineering and management at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, I got into contact with various fields, including energy economics, which quickly sparked my interest. Through the specialization options in my studies and my work as a research assistant at the Chair of Energy Economics, I gained early insights into current research projects and developments in the industry. I was able to gather first practical experience through my Master's thesis, which I was fortunate to write in cooperation with a major energy company.
However, the more I became involved in the energy industry, the more I realised how complex it is and how many interesting areas there are to work in. The question arose: Which of these areas should I choose?
Decision to work for a consultancy and become an analyst at TAH:
It was this question that led me to the job as a consultant at The Advisory House (TAH). As an expert in the energy industry, TAH manages a wide range of projects along the entire value chain. This meant that I didn't have to limit myself to a specific area of the energy industry but had the opportunity to get to know all areas and build up my own expertise.
After just two years at TAH as an analyst, I was able to gain many different insights into the various aspects of the energy industry. From strategic projects, such as the development of a gas procurement strategy, to IT topics in energy trading, process automation and governance issues, I have been involved in everything. And now, following my promotion to Consultant, I am taking on more responsibility.
Integration at TAH and taking on responsibility:
I was warmly welcomed at TAH right from the start. In addition to initial internal tasks, I was also directly integrated into ongoing projects. While I initially had the opportunity to look over the shoulders of experienced colleagues, responsibility was quickly entrusted to me. This combination of support and taking responsibility helped me a lot to prepare for my first own projects.
Thanks to the counsellor concept, each employee is paired with an experienced colleague who acts as a central point of contact for all types of issues. This helped me a lot to find my way around TAH, especially during the initial onboarding period – there is always someone you can turn to.
Team dynamics and collaboration at TAH:
So far, I have always experienced a very pleasant working atmosphere and very fair approach at TAH, without an elbow mentality or pure top-down management. Although we often work alone on projects without other TAH colleagues and much of the work is done from the home-office, it is still important to meet in person from time to time, as far as the project situation allows. We therefore try to meet in our office in Düsseldorf at regular intervals, usually once a week to strengthen personal exchange.
A special highlight for me are our annual team events, where all TAH employees from all three locations come together. Our trip to Iceland, one month after I started working at TAH, was a particular highlight. This was the perfect opportunity for me to get to know my colleagues from the other locations in a relaxed atmosphere.
Overall, I can say that the working environment at TAH is characterised by a collegial atmosphere. I was particularly impressed by the diversity of expertise in the team. You can fall back on internal expert knowledge for almost any question - this mutual help and the general knowledge management has already helped me a lot with many different tasks.
